Letter to Increase US Refugee Admissions
Dear Members of Congress, As members of the Eritrean diaspora and allies, we are asking for your help in urging President Biden to sign an Executive Order, as planned, to urgently increase the number of refugees who can enter the United States in Fiscal Year 2021 to 62,500. Due to the restrictive categories set by the Trump administration’s Presidential Determination (PD), by the end of March only 2,050 refugees have arrived in the US this year. Admissions are the lowest they have been in the 40-year history of the U.S. refugee resettlement program. And in March, more than 700 flights that were scheduled in anticipation of your action have now been cancelled.
